PORTABLE LIGHT RIG
Commissioned by pop singer Tiffany Houghton to design and build a portable lighting rig approximately 6' tall by 8' long within an accelerated time frame. The disassembled dimensions of the lighting rig needed to conform to airline checked bag size and weight limitations. Engineering a robust structure that also permitted easy set up and tear down was another key requirement. Also responsible for programming lights on rig to display effects synchronized to her music.
Solution
The frame utilized a square extruded aluminum tubing system from EZ Tube. After cut to the appropriate lengths, a jig was used to drill mounting holes for the tube connectors, DMX sockets, and LED light diffusing channels. All elements were fixed to the tubes via rivets to bolster durability. Addressable LED light strips (cut to size) bonded to the diffusing channels. Specially selected travel bags were sourced that complied with airline checked baggage requirements. 3D printed brackets were designed to hold the tubing sections in transit.
